So You Want to Be a Beekeeper

What it takes, what to expect, and what we've learned in 65 years of tending hives.

Start small

Your first hive is a magical thing

Beekeeping isn't hard — but it rewards patience, observation, and a willingness to let the bees tell you what they need.

Most beginners start with 2 hives (always start with 2 — they help each other), a good suit, a smoker, and the right local knowledge.

What Sets Us Apart

The Weeks Difference

Three generations of beekeeping. Zero shortcuts.

Start in Spring

Order your bees (called a "nuc") in early spring. They need time to build up before summer nectar flow.

Location Matters

Morning sun. Afternoon shade in summer. Near water. Away from wind. Safe from bears.

Inspect Monthly

Pop the lid every 2–4 weeks. Look for: queen, eggs, brood pattern, food stores, disease signs.
